SINGAPORE, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Air force chiefs from 10 member countries of
the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) signed a Declaration of
Support for ASEAN Air Forces Co-operation in Addressing Terrorism on Sunday.
The agreement reaffirms their commitment to fight terrorism together, by
striving to assist one another through training, technical cooperation and
information sharing, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defense of
Singapore.
The agreement was signed at the 5th ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference which was
hosted by Singapore, the current chair of ASEAN.
The conference serves as a useful platform for the ASEAN air force chiefs
to meet regularly to discuss issues of common professional interests.
During the conference themed "Partners in Peace and Security", the
participants also discussed a range of security issues including the threat of
terrorism facing the region and opportunities for co-operation.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the inaugural Singapore Airshow
2008, which will open on Tuesday.
