SANTIAGO, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva postponed his trip to Antarctica by one day because of bad weather conditions on the continent, Chilean media reported Saturday.

Lula, who arrived in the southern Chilean city of Punta Arenas Friday evening, and his entourage will leave for Antarctica Sunday if the weather turns better, said the report.

Twenty-three people, including his wife and government officials, will accompany the president on the trip, aimed at marking the 25th anniversary of Brazil's presence on the continent.

Lula will be the second Brazilian president to visit King George Island, where the South American nation's Comandante Ferrazbase is located. Former president Fernando Collor de Mello traveled to the base in 1991.
