SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Mao Asada of Japan won her maiden title at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in her first try at Goyang, South Korea on Saturday.
Leading her compatriot and world champion Miki Ando by only 0.87 points after the short program, 17-year-old Asada pulled away with 132.31 points in the free skating and finished with a total 193.25.
Asada, second behind Ando at the 2007 world championships, executed her triple axel and seven other jumps in her routine.
Canadian Joannie Rochette scored 119.50 in the free skating to finish second overall with 179.54.
Ando managed just 117.59 points in the free skating and ended third at 177.66.
