BEIJING, Feb. 14 -- Four hundred and thirty-four officials were expelled from government services in Wuhan of central China's Hubei Province for exceeding birth limits, local newspaper Chutian Metropolis Daily reported on Thursday.
According to a report submitted by the city's Commission of Family Planning on Wednesday, altogether 843 officials have been punished for the same reason, with 434 dismissed and 102 demoted.
Last year, the city cleared up the cases of exceeding the stipulated limit in the birth-control policy starting on March 1, 1998, which involved over 190 thousand people, and 1,808 people who had exceeded birth limits but had been overlooked previously were found out.
The emphasis of the work this year is investigating government staff members and CPC members who have applied to have a second child since the year 2001, according to the city's Commission of Family Planning.
