BEIJING, Feb. 13 -- McLaren's Lewis Hamilton will resume Formula One
testing in Spain Tuesday after suffering racist abuse from the local crowd
at his last outing in Barcelona earlier this month.
The team said it would be business as usual for the 23-year-old Briton, the
sport's first black driver who was due to test for the next three days at the
southern Jerez circuit.
Hamilton, who won four races and finished as overall runner-up in his
rookie season, has become a hate figure in Spain for his rivalry with double
world champion Fernando Alonso.
The Spaniard was his teammate last year before returning to Renault.
The governing International Automobile Federation (FIA) has warned the
Spanish authorities the country could lose its two grands prix if there is any
repeat of the Barcelona incidents.
Red Bull and Williams were the only teams testing at the southern circuit
on Monday.
Williams were picking up the pace again after resolving the front wing
problems that forced them to abandon their last outing in Barcelona.
Technical director Sam Michael said in a statement that the team had signed
off a revision to the front wing mounting system.
"We had no major issues and both Nico (Rosberg) and Kazuki (Nakajima) will
continue with the programme tomorrow," he said of the day's work.
Meanwhile, Super Aguri postponed the launch of its 2008 Formula One car
yesterday pending continuing talks with would-be investors.
The Honda-backed team had planned to unveil the SA08 car during a test at
Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on February 19 but instead scheduled a question
and answer session with founder Aguri Suzuki and technical director Mark
Preston.
Super Aguri, which finished ninth overall last year with Japan's Takuma
Sato and Britain's Anthony Davidson, has yet to confirm its driver line-up.
However the team has said it hopes to continue with the existing pairing
and an announcement could be made later this week. The season starts in
Australia on March 16.
The cash-strapped team has not tested since December although the 2008 car
passed its mandatory FIA crash test last week.
Aguri, the smallest team in Formula One, has been talking to various
potential investors.
