PRAGUE, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Czech lawmakers will cast
their vote on Feb. 15 in a fresh presidential election after they failed to
elect a new president in previous rounds, the country's lower house leader
Miloslav Vlcek said Saturday.
Neither of the two candidates, incumbent President
Vaclav Klausand economist Jan Svejnar Vlcek, has gained enough votes in the
joint session of both houses to declare victory, Vlcek said.
According to the official results, Klaus obtained 139 votes,
92 from the Chamber of Deputies and 47 from the Senate, while his opponent
Svejnar obtained 113 votes, with 81 coming from the deputies and 32 from
senators.
In order to be elected, a candidate needs to get a
simple majority of all the 281 ballots.
Klaus was short of one vote, Vlcek said.
The two rivals are set to meet in the new election as
their parties pledged not to change candidate, local media said.
