German cyclist wins Tour of Cuba's 4th phase

    HAVANA, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- German cyclist Mathias Friedenmann, of the Saxonia team, won on Friday Tour of Cuba's 4th phase, while Cuban cyclist Pedro Pablo Perez is leading in this competition.

    Friedenmann crossed the finish line first in 2:18:15 after the ride of 109 kms between Bayamo and Holguin, in the Caribbean country's eastern region.

    Friedenmann was followed by Venezuelan cyclist Julio Cesar Herrera and Pedro Pablo Perez, who spent the same time.

    Perez leads the race so far (in 13:13:53 hours), followed by Slovenian cyclist Jure Kocjan (Perutnina team), Lizardo Benitez (Cuba) and Osviel Vento (Habana), the three tied seven seconds more than the leader.

    The 123-km 5th phase will be carried out on Saturday from Las Tunas city to Camaguey city.

    The 1,791km Tour of Cuba is divided in 13 phases and will conclude on February 17 in front of Havana's Capitol.
