BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League (CCYL) has granted membership dues to support its members' disaster relief activities in nine worst-hit regions.
The nine regions seriously affected by snow and ice include Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Anhui, Jiangxi, Gansu and Sichuan provinces, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality.
The CCYL also urged its members in disaster-stricken areas to help with disaster relief and emergency aid work.
In central Hunan Province, more than 200,000 league members were mobilized to remove snow and ice from major roads. Hundreds of young volunteers braved cold winds to clear the square in front of the Changsha Railway Station.
In southern Guangdong Province, the local CCYL committee set up service centers for stranded passengers and handed out more than 1,000 raincoats, 115 boxes of medicine and other necessities, which were worth more than 200,000 yuan (about 27,000 U.S. dollars).
In other provinces such as Anhui, Hubei, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Gansu and Sichuan, CCYL members joined other organizations in disaster relief work.
