ALMATY, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tajikistan temporarily cut power supply on Tuesday as a result of shortages caused by three weeks of low temperatures, the Inter fax news agency reported from the Central Asian country's capital Dushanbe.

Tajikistan's state energy company decided to suspend power supply to nearly all industrial enterprises, though strategic facilities and hospitals have not been affected.

Severe weather conditions led to three weeks of low temperatures, in which rivers were frozen with inadequate water for power generation, according to the report.

In Dushanbe, temperatures were reported as low as -22 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the lowest since 1982.

The state energy company warned power shortages could become more critical in early February.
