BEIJING, Jan. 20 -- Gordon Brown continued his Chinese tour with a stop in Shanghai, where he met with local CPC and government officials.

In a meeting with Shanghai Party chief Yu Zhengsheng, Brown complimented Shanghai's economic achievements. Yu says he'd like to see more British enterprises to invest in the city.

They also attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on the joint Sino-British project of the world's first eco-city in Shanghai's Chongming Island.

Brown says the project shows Britain and China have entered an era of higher-level cooperation. He said Britain hopes to transfer many new environmental protection technologies to China through the project.
