Brazil, Venezuela back Bolivia against FIFA's high-altitude veto

    LIMA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and Venezuela President Hugo Chavez stated their firm and total support to Bolivia in its fight against Federation of International Football Associations' (FIFA) high-altitude soccer veto.

    Aaccording to news reaching here, Bolivian Presidency minister Juan Quintana said on Friday that Chavez backed Bolivia's effort on continuously promoting their rights to play sports, including soccer, in high altitudes.

    "Morales talked with President Chavez who has offered all the support to continue promoting Bolivia's and other affected countries' inalienable sports rights affected by FIFA's veto," said Quintana.

    The FIFA announced on May 27, 2007 that it prohibited international soccer games played at over 2,750 meters altitude over sea level, affecting Bolivia's cities of La Paz, Sucre and Potosi.

    Quintana added that Brazilian President Lula Da Silva's commitment was also received, and that Lula will send a letter to Brazil's Soccer Federation (FBF) so that it intervenes in favor of high-altitude soccer.

    Meanwhile, Bolivia has also received the support of the Soccer Professionals' International Federation, and Morales foresees to visit the World Soccer Players' Guild on February 29 to seek more support against FIFA's veto.
