LONDON, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The London stock market opened further lower on Friday morning, shadowing their European counterparts after heavy losses on the Wall Street prompted further fears of U.S. recession.
Not long after opening the FTSE 100 index was down 23.10 points, at 5,879.30.
Biggest gainer was London Stock Exchange, which saw its shares rise 4 percent after Prime Minister Gordon Brown opened an LSE office in Beijing.
Carphone Warehouse fell 4.35 percent after it reported 1 percent growth for the fourth quarter in 2007.
