BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. rock 'n' roll pioneer Ike Turner died of a cocaine overdoes, according to the San Dego county Medical Examiners' reports Wednesday.

"The cause of death for Mr. Turner is cocaine toxicity with other significant additions contributing," Paul Parker, the chief investigator at the medical examiners' office.

The medical examiner's office also listed hypertensive cardiovascular disease and pulmonary emphysema as "significant and contributing factors" to Turner's death, Parker said.

Turner died on Dec. 12 at the age of 76 in his home near San Diego.

After slipping into obscurity in recent decades, Turner was on a comeback trail of sorts. He won his first Grammy since 1972 early 2007 for a blues album and was collaborating on a project with producer Danger Mouse.

Ike turned his wife Tina Turner into a superstar in the 1960s but later saw his career collapse amid drugs and claims of spousal abuse.

He invented rock 'n' roll with his 1951 song "Rocket 88" and enjoyed huge fame in the 1960s and 1970s with Tina, but his achievements were overshadowed when Tina launched a comeback in the 1980s and accused her former husband of beating her and reducing her to servitude.

Tina Turner was believed to be in Zurich and unavailable for comment.
