Special report: Palestine-Israel Relations

RAMALLAH, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli troops arrested early on Monday morning 10 Palestinians in the West Bank, said to be wanted for being involved in planning attacks against Israel, Palestinian security sources reported.

Israeli Radio, which also confirmed the report, quoted an Israeli army spokesman as saying that 10 Palestinians, wanted by Israel, were detained in the West Bank cities of Nablus, Tulkarem, Hebron and Jericho.

The spokesman said the Israeli army found one of the detainees with a pistol, adding that all the 10 detained were taken for questioning.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Hamas movement, claimed responsibility for firing two mortar shells at the Gaza eastern borders with Israel.

The group said in a communique that the mortar shells were fired at Israel in response to the daily Israeli incursions into Gaza and the air strikes that target Gaza militants.

Overnight, three Palestinian militants were killed in an Israeli air strike on their car in western Gaza City, not far from where deposed prime minister of Hamas Ismail Haneya lives.

Medics said three more people were injured in the air strike. An Israeli army spokesman said the air strike targeted militants who launch rockets at Israel on daily bases.

According to a report made by Shin Bet security service chief Yuval Diskin on Sunday at the weekly cabinet briefing in Jerusalem, Israeli security forces killed 810 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in 2006 and 2007, some 200 of whom were not clearly linked to terrorist organizations.
