January 2 - New car sales jumped 7.02% in 2007, over the previous year, with the
Fiat group seeing sales climb 9.2% for the year, transport ministry figures
showed on Wednesday.
The increase in sales for Fiat allowed it to expand
its market share to 31.32%, its best result since 2001.
New car sales in December were up 14.08% over the
same month in 2006, while those in the Fiat group leapt 19.5%, lifting its
market share for the month to 31.6%, compared to 30.72% a year earlier.
Sales of Fiat marque cars soared almost 24% for the
year, for a market share of 25.25%.
Lancia sales last year were up 5.3% over 2006, for a
market share of 4.2%, while those for Alfa Romeo inched up 2.4%, its market
share holding at 3% for 2007.
