Six FARC militants killed in Colombia

    BOGOTA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Colombian military said Tuesday it killed six members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in three separate clashes with the rebels across the country.¡¡

    ¡¡Three militants from the FARC, the largest rebel group in Colombia, were killed in a rural region in southwestern Cauca province.    Another FARC insurgent was killed in the rural Bucarasica area of the northeastern Norte de Santander province.

    Meanwhile, two more FARC members were killed in the upper part of El Carmen de Bolivar town.

    Weapons, ammunition and explosives were seized by the military in the three clashes.

    Since its formation in 1964, the FARC has maintained a campaign of armed combat against the Colombian government and other targets, and carried out kidnappings of civilians and legislators.
