Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq
TIKRIT, Iraq, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Gunmen attacked a convoy of trucks in the province of Salahudin north of Baghdad on Sunday, kidnapping 11 truck drivers, a provincial police source said.
The unknown gunmen set up a faked checkpoint on the main road near the town of Sulaiman Bek, 90 km east of the provincial capital of Tikrit, and kidnapped the drivers of the trucks that were carrying food stuff to the northern city of Mosul, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The incident took place in Saddam Hussein's hometown province, where the residents commemorating the one-year anniversary of the execution of the ousted president.
