STOCKHOLM, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The leaders from
Nordic countries strongly condemned on Thursday the terrorist attack in Pakistan
that killed the country's opposition leader and former prime minister Benazir
Bhutto.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg called the
assassination "a serious attack against the efforts for a return to democracy in
Pakistan." He hoped that the efforts for normalization of democracy would not be
stopped by the attack.
Sweden Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said he had felt
disgust when receiving the news of Bhutto's murder, which he called "bestial".
"I feel a strong worry for the consequences this will have for Pakistan," he
added.
Denmark Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller called the
murder of Bhutto "the most violent attack" against the process of reconciliation
and democracy in Pakistan. He urged all the political forces in the country to
be consistent with efforts to keep peace and stability in the country.
Bhutto was killed in a suicide bomb attack in
Rawalpindi, south of capital Islamabad on Thursday while leading an election
rally.
