HANOI, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam next year will pour hundreds of millions
of U.S. dollars into implementing some transport projects like upgrading weak
bridges and national roads, and building a seaport, according to local media on
Monday.
In 2008, the country will start to carry out projects on upgrading 70 weak
bridges with investment of 2,500 billion Vietnamese dong (VND) (nearly 156.3
million dollars), a section of national road No. 1 in southern Can Tho city with
investment of 1,047 billion VND (65.4 million dollars), and a section of
national road No. 18A in northern Quang Ninh province with investment of 1,294
billion VND (80.9 million dollars), said Pioneer newspaper.
In the year, Vietnam will also start construction of a seaport in northern
Hai Phong city with investment of 4,100 billion VND (nearly 256.3 million
dollars), and a bridge in southern Dong Nai province with investment of 500
billion VND (31.3 million dollars).
Vietnam plans to pour 765,000 billion VND (47.8 billion dollars) into
building some 6,000 km of expressway from now to 2020, said Vietnam News
newspaper. The expressway would be divided into 20 routes, including two
north-south ones.
