HANOI, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's current sex ratio at birth is 110 males over 100 females, compared with the normal ratio of 105/107, local newspaper Youth reported Friday.
In 18 cities and provinces, the ratio stands as high as 111-120/100, the paper quoted Ian Howie, representative of the U.N. Population Fund in Vietnam, as saying.
Even in some areas, the ratio is over 120/100, he said, noting that Vietnam will have more male adults than female ones if it does not take drastic measures to deal with the issue.
Vietnam has some 84 million people, 55 percent of them are under 25, according to the UN agency.
