Afghan president to pay two-day visit to Pakistan

    ISLAMABAD, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai will pay a two-day visit to Pakistan from Dec. 26 at the invitation of President Pervez Musharraf, according to the Pakistani foreign ministry on Wednesday.

    At a press briefing here on Wednesday, Foreign Office Spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said that this would be essentially a goodwill visit and expression of solidarity with Pakistan.

    Karzai will be the second head of state to visit Pakistan after Musharraf was re-elected as the country's president.

    Karzai will meet with Musharraf and Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammad Mian Soomro and their discussion will focus on bilateral relations, reconstruction in Afghanistan and regional as well as the international situation, according to the spokesman.

    He said that the two sides will also discuss cooperation in fighting against the terrorism.
