OTTAWA, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Marijuana production continues to flourish in Canada, fueled by the involvement of organized crime, according to report released Monday.
The number of seizures of marijuana growing and operations declined noticeably in 2006 but the illicit trade continued to blossom, national police Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in its annual report.
Canadian marijuana growers sell their products in the United States to finance other illegal activities, including purchasing cocaine and guns, according to the report.
In some new developments, some organizations that once specialized in a single drug have began to branch out into various substances, the report noted.
