JAKARTA, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- A moderate quake with magnitude of 5.6 struck eastern Java Island on Monday, but with no immediate report of damages or casualty, the Indonesian meteorology agency said here.

    The quake jolted at 07:09 Jakarta time (0009 GMT) with epicenter at 200 kilometers southeast Blitar of East Java province and at 10 kilometer in depth, an official of the agency said.

    In 2004, over 170,000 people were dead in Aceh province in northern tip of Sumatra Island after a tsunami triggered by a powerful quake devastated coastal areas of the province and other countries in southeast Asia.

    Indonesia is laid at a vulnerable zone, so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire", where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that causes frequent volcanic movements.
