TOKYO, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- A 37-year-old man who apparently shot himself dead early Saturday was identified as the gunman who opened fire in a sports center in southern Japan's Nagasaki Friday evening and killed two people.
The police identified the suspect who shot with a shotgun in the Renaissance Sasebo sports club at Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture on Friday as Masayoshi Magome, Kyodo News said. The shooting rampage killed a woman and a man and wounded six others including two girls.
The man, in camouflage suit, was later found dead near a church around 5 kilometers southwest of the sports gym, with a shotgun near his body, according to the police. The man apparently committed suicide as the sound of a gunshot was heard about 5:44 a.m. (2044 GMT).
Magome, a regular user of the sports gym since June, had gone to the same junior high school with the man he killed, a 36-year-old fishing gear maker named Yuji Fujimoto. Some problems between Magome and Fujimoto, or with the woman he killed may be the motive of his shooting, Kyodo said.
On Friday evening, the gunman entered the gym from the front entrance, before randomly shooting at people in the lobby and in an office room, as well as to a pool where a swimming lesson for children was being held. At least six shots were heard. Around 70 people were at the gym when the shooting occurred.
