JAKARTA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- A 47-year-old Indonesian man from an outskirt city of Jakarta was infected by avian influenza and was in critical condition in a hospital, health ministry said here on Wednesday.

Laboratories tests showed that the man was positively infected by highly pathogenic H5N1 virus, said Joko Suyono, official of the anti-bird flu center of the ministry.

The man has been treated in a bird flu-designed hospital of Persahabatan in East Jakarta since December 10 with fever, difficulty in breathing and cough, Suyono said, adding that he is now in critical condition.

The case has put the total cases to 115 with 92 fatal in Indonesia, said Suyono.

Indonesia has been making all its efforts to deal with the problem of spreading the virus.
