ATHENS, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Greece will continue to follow a responsible policy without hurried moves and decisions on Kosovo issue, Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis told Parliament's foreign and European affairs committees on Tuesday.

"A criterion of our decisions will be the safeguarding of stability and peace and the broader Greek interests in the region. In every case, Serbia's European course and of the broader region of the western Balkans must proceed with stable, concrete steps," Bakoyannis said.

"There is no good or easy solution for Kosovo and no one has proposed it to date. There must be a period of reflection, so that Belgrade and Pristina evaluate the new facts." she said.

"However, we must not, with hurried decisions, strengthen extreme voices. In every case, it must be made clear that the case of Kosovo is legally unique and must not create a precedent which will have repercussions in the respect of the borders," she added.

Bakoyannis stressed that the problem of Kosovo is composite and particularly difficult, noting that Greece is following a careful policy and adding that there must be a European prospect for Serbia, so that by the end of 2008 to assume the status of candidate for accession country.

Kosovo, a province in Serbia dominated by ethnic Albanians, has been under U.N. administration for several years and wants independence which is rejected by the Serbian government which grants the province only autonomy.
