KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysian Immigration Department is planning to introduce Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) chips in visas issued to foreign nationals, an official said in the parliament here on Monday.
The new visa would enable the authorities to locate and monitor the movement of foreigners who had overstayed, Parliamentary Secretary to the Home Affairs Ministry Paduka Abdul Rahman Ibrahimsaid.
It would also make it easy for the authorities to verify the authenticity of visas, he said.
"Up to November, 365 fake visas have been detected," Rahman was quoted by the national news agency Bernama as saying.
The Immigration Department ran a 24-hour operations room at its headquarters for the verification of visas, Rahman said.
Raids were also conducted after receiving information from the public who were suspicious of visas held by foreigners, he said.
The department also adopted an integrated immigration system which uses a single platform for the purpose of information sharing at entry points, he said.
So far, 26 of 150 entry points nationwide had the system installed, he said.
