BEIJING, Dec. 9 -- A new fish species was discovered in southwest China's
Yunnan Province, researchers with the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced
on its website Friday.
After a careful
examination of the 16 individuals of a small-sized fish captured in the Ruili
River in Dehong, Yunnan, researchers with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)
Kunming Institute of Zoology have identified that the new findings belong to a
new species of Microrasbora.
Being named Microrasbora microphthalma, the species
adds a new addition to the family Microrasbora, which at present has five
members.
The Microrasbora microphthalma is the only one
distributed in China while all the four others are scattered outside its
border.
