    BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Former British Prime Minister John Major visited Xinhua News Agency Wednesday, and held a meeting with Vice President Lu Wei.

    Lu briefed the guests on Xinhua's mission and development, especially the Xinhua08, a financial trading system newly established by the agency.

    Major said he hopes to pay another visit to Xinhua and learn more about the system.

    He was also given a brief demonstration of Xinhua's multimedia database.

    Major, who served as prime minister from 1990 to 1997, visited China in September 1991.
