NEW DELHI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- A three-day inter-ministerial meeting on avian influenza or bird flu will be held here on Wednesday, according to local media reports.

According to local news agency Press Trust of India, the United States would increase its international pledge to fight Avian and Pandemic influenza from the current 434 million U.S. dollars, a substantial amount of which would be dedicated towards fighting the disease in India.

The announcement would be made during the three-day conference on Avian flu beginning on Wednesday.

About 100 countries will attend the meeting which is aimed at putting animal health in focus as emerging diseases like avian flu and mad cow disease.

Participants will be asked to ensure bio security in the poultry sector so that the infection cannot move from poultry to humans.

So far, India has had two bird flu outbreaks.
