RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Sao Paulo police arrested over 400 people allegedly involved in using child prostitutes in nightclubs in Brazil's biggest city, police said Friday.

The police operation, which started Thursday evening and continued to Friday morning, targeted a total of 17 nightclubs that allegedly admitted or promoted the prostitution of children and adolescents under 18.

Only one underage female was arrested at the spot. The 17-year-old girl who used a fake ID would be taken to the presence of a judge. Other suspects arrested are mainly club owners and staff.

The police suspected that night club owners were tipped off before the operation because when police stormed the night clubs, only one was found open. Six clubs were shut down by the police during the operation.
