MEXICO CITY, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Eastern Caribbean Martinique island was hit on Thursday by a strong 7.4 Richter-scale earthquake causing material damages, although victims or injured people have not been reported, the United States (U.S.) Geological Survey reported on Thursday.

According to reports reaching here on Thursday, "so far we have been informed that a building and a bank have collapsed. There is panic, but we do not know if there are human casualties," local police stated. Local police said the quake had caused buildings to collapse in Martinique.

The quake has also been felt in another French Caribbean island, Guadeloupe, and to a lesser extent in French Guiana, the police added.

The earthquake sent people running out of buildings into the street in Barbado's capital Bridgetown, while some homes have been reported as destroyed.

The quake also shook Venezuela, including its capital Caracas, but no damage or victims have been reported yet.

The quake was felt at 1900 GMT time centered at 41 kilometers north-northwest of Fort de France in Martinique and at a depth of 145 kilometers.
