Special report: Mideast peace conference

GAZA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement revealed on Thursday that the deposed Hamas government, which still rules Gaza, has "secret and disclosed" contacts with European sides.

"Undoubtedly, Europeans have met officials from Hamas and (Ismail) Haneya government inside and outside... some of these meetings were made public and others were not announced," Hamas spokesman in Gaza, Ismail Redwan, told reporters.

He added that some of the Europeans preferred to keep their meetings with Hamas secret for fears of being boycotted. Some of the meetings were between officials and involved governmental issues and some were between intellectuals.

The United States and Europe list Hamas as a terrorist organization since its charter calls for the destruction of Israel.

In June, Hamas took control of Gaza Strip after driving out forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas. The Islamic movement rules Gaza, neglecting a decision by Abbas that fired it.
