ISLAMABAD, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces on Thursday arrested a man who said he was brother of Maulana Fazalullah, a militant leader active in the northwestern tribal area of Swat, the army said.
Fazal Ahad was arrested with some other colleagues at a check post on a main road, military spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said.
Fazal Ahad said he is the brother of Maulana Fazalullah, and now he "is being questioned" as to whether or not he was having links with his brother's activities, said Arshad, head of the inter services public relations.
Separately, the army also said five soldiers were killed in a bomb attack in the country's North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday.
"Security Forces pounded various militant positions with artillery and mortar fire. Reportedly, a large number of militants have fled the area. Prominent militant leaders have also vanished," the army said.
Security forces have been stepping up operations recently in the northwest tribal area, killing militants numbered in hundreds by Wednesday.
Attacks on security forces increased in North Waziristan after local Taliban scrapped a peace deal with the government in July this year.
The two sides had signed the peace deal in September 2006.
