AMMAN, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Following the severe cyclone Sidr in Bangladesh,
Jordan will provide emergency relief to those affected, the Jordan Hashemite
Charity Organization said on Wednesday.
The aid, which will be sent during the coming two days, contains medical
supplies, foodstuff, tents and blankets, Director General of the Jordan
Hashemite Charity Organization Abdul Salam Abbadi added.
He said Jordan's King Abdullah II on Tuesday ordered this dispatch of
urgent assistance to Bangladesh.
Cyclone Sidr landed on Bangladesh on Nov. 15. It is one of the fiercest
cyclones that hit the country in the last 131 years, affecting 30 out of the
country's 64 districts, leaving at least 3,199 dead, more than 1,000 missing and
some 34,500 injured.
According to the report by the Bangladeshi Food and Disaster Management
Ministry, nearly 6.9 million people of 1.6 million families were affected, some
1.2 million houses and crops on land of some 1.79 acres were damaged either
completely or partially.
