CANBERRA, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Australian Prime minister-elect Kevin Rudd on Sunday said he will visit the United States and Indonesia soon.

Rudd was speaking at his first news conference as prime minister-elect in Brisbane, capital of his home-state of Queensland, since the Labor party's election win on Saturday.

He said he has talked to U.S. President George W Bush, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

"My conversation this morning with President Bush - he kindly rang to congratulate me, I thanked him for the courtesy of the call," Rudd said.

"I emphasized to President Bush the centrality of the U.S. alliance and our approach to our future foreign policy," he said.

He said he told Bush that he planned to visit the United States soon.

Rudd also said he plans a visit to Indonesia around the new year in addition to the upcoming visit to the Indonesian island of Bali where he will lead the Australian delegation to attend an international meeting on climate change.

Yudhoyono has formally invited Rudd to next month's Bali meeting.

"I responded positively of course to President Yudhoyono's invitation and said I looked forward very much to meeting him in Bali very soon," Rudd said.

"I also emphasized to President Yudhoyono the absolute importance of a strong bilateral relationship between ourselves and Indonesia and I also look forward to some time in the new year to further visit Indonesia to extend and broaden our relationship with that country," he said.

Meanwhile, Rudd said he also discussed climate change with Brown and looks forward very much to working closely with the British government on that in the future.

"I look forward generally to working with the British government in the future on a range of foreign policy measures across the world," he said.
