Brazilian team beat Vietnamese rival to win int'l soccer tournament

    BINH DUONG PROVINCE (Vietnam), Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Matsubara ranked first at the Binh Duong Television International Football Tournament with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Vietnam's Dong Tam Long An here Saturday.

    Eight minutes into the final match, Brazilian striker of Dong Tam Long An, Antonio Carlos, opened the score with a header from close range over the goalie of Matsubara.

    It is Antonio that scored the sole goal of the semifinal game against Vietnam's Da Nang. In the other semifinal game ending goalless, Matsubara beat South Korea's Daejeon 4-3 by penalty shootout.

    After the break, Matsubara pushed forward in a move to level the score. Their efforts paid off when a Matsubara half-backer delivered a quick low shot to defeat the 1.98-m goalkeeper of Dong Tam Dong An.

    The match's result was decided by penalty shoot-outs. Matsubaragoalie was successful in blocking two shots, while Dong Tam Long An goalkeeper one shot. After the game, Matsubara received the tournament's best goalkeeper award, and his teammate got the best scorer award.

    The tournament, taking place from Nov. 15-24 in Vietnam's southern Binh Duong province, drew the participation of eight clubs, including Matsubara, Daejeon, Dalian Shide from China, Chonburi from Thailand, and Dong Tam Long An, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Binh Duong and Da Nang from Vietnam.
