WB to loan Vietnam for education, infrastructure development

    HANOI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank (WB) will offer Vietnam total concessional credit of some 457 million U.S. dollars, helping its education and infrastructure development.

    Under agreements signed here Thursday between the WB and the State Bank of Vietnam, the money will be poured into four projects worth 712 million dollars.

    Specifically, the WB will provide 59.4 million dollars to a project on raising the quality of teaching and research in universities, and 164.8 million dollars to another on developing transport in Hanoi capital city.

    Besides, WB will respectively offer credits of 207 million dollars and 25 million dollars to two projects on developing infrastructure, and promoting transport and flood protection in the southern Mekong Delta.

    "Vietnam continues to be high on the WB's priority list, and we expect these projects will help the implementation of Vietnam's development plan," WB country director to Vietnam Ajay Chhibber said at the signing ceremony.
