Spanish actor, film director and writer

BEIJING,
Nov. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Fernando Fernan-Gomez, 86, a
prolific Spanish actor, director and writer, died in a Madrid hospital on
Wednesday.
Fernan-Gomez, who was born in Lima, Peru, on Aug.
28, 1921, arrived in Spain at the age of three and went on to study philosophy
and literature in Madrid.
He made over 200 appearances in Spanish television
series and films including Spain's 1992 Oscar-winning film "La Belle Epoque,"
which also starred a young Penelope Cruz.
Over the years he also directed 20 films,
working with a great variety of other Spanish directors including Ricardo
Franco, Manuel Gutierrez Aragon, Jaime de Arminan, Juan Antonio Bardem and Luis
Garcia Berlanga.
During his 64-year career, Fernan-Gomez, received six
Goyas of the Principe de Asturias prize -- Spain's top film award.
He received an honorary Golden Bear for his extensive
career at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2005.
