Special report: Internal situation in Palestine
RAMALLAH, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah movement arrested four members of Islamic Hamas movement in the West Bank on Wednesday, Hamas said in a statement.
One of the detainees was Ahmed Bader, the commander of Hamas' military wing Ezz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades in West Bank city of Hebron, said the statement, adding that Bader was detained after the security services summoned him.
Meanwhile, two more Hamas members were arrested in another West Bank city of Nablus while the fourth was detained in Tubass, according to the statement.
Hamas accused of the detentions of being politically motivated. However, the security forces rejected the accusation, saying the detentions aim at preventing Hamas' power from threatening the West Bank stability.
In June, Hamas fought pro-Abbas forces in Gaza and took control of the territory. The crackdown on Hamas in the West Bank was launched following the Gaza takeover.
Meanwhile, as part of their daily operations, Israeli troops arrested four Palestinians in the West Bank. Three were arrested in Hebron city and the fourth was taken from a village near Ramallah.
