2.6 mln children engaged in child labor in Nepal

    KATHMANDU, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 2.6 million children between age of 5-14 years are involved in one or other kind of child labor in Nepal, reported the national news agency (RSS) Tuesday.

    During a program organized to mark the 18th International Child Rights Day in the Nepali capital of Kathma the statistics that some 27,000 children are engaged in worst form of child labor in Nepal.

    Inaugurating the workshop organized by the NGO Federation for Child Rights, Nepal, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel said effective programs can be brought in child rights sector through coordination and cooperation between government and social organizations.

    Speakers including chairman of the NGO Federation for Child Rights, Nepal, Prachanda Pradhan and advisor Upendra Neupane stressed on effective implementation of the International Convention on Child Rights, to which Nepal is a signatory, by preparing a national plan of action on child rights.
