Vietnam, Uruguay to foster multi-faceted co-op

    HANOI, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay have agreed to strengthen delegation exchange to promote their mutual understanding, and cooperation on economy, trade, investment and technology transfer, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.

    During the talks between Vietnamese State President Nguyen MinhTriet and his visiting Uruguay counterpart Tabare Ramon Vazquez Rosas on Monday, the two sides also agreed to beef up cooperation in the fields that they have advantages such as agriculture, food processing, biotechnology, and construction.

    They discussed their joint activities at the UN Security Council and UN Economic and Social Council, and issues on trade and integration into international organizations such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the South American Common Market.

    After the talks, Triet and Tabare Ramon Vazquez Rosas, arriving here Sunday for his three-day official visit to Vietnam, witnessed the signing of a framework agreement on cooperation between the two governments, an agreement on waiving visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports, and a memorandum of understanding on establishing consultation mechanisms between the two foreign ministries.

    During his visit, Tabare Ramon Vazquez Rosas is scheduled to meet with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh and Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, Nguyen Phu Trong.
