"Good Luck Beijing" int'l boxing invitational tournament kicks off

    BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- "Good Luck Beijing" international boxing invitational tournament kicked off at Beijing's Worker's Indoor Arena (BWIA) on Saturday.

    The six-day tournament is among a series of test events for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, featured 76 boxers from 17 countries and regions.

    It is hosted by Chinese Boxing Federation. The direct elimination system is applied, and there will be a total of 70 bouts, including preliminaries, semifinals and finals.

    BWIA, renovated in 2006, will be the Olympic boxing and Paralympic judo competitions in 2008.

    Good Luck Beijing Sports Events serve as a warm-up and rehearsal prior to the 2008 Olympic Games. Beginning from July this year and May next year, over 10,000 athletes from various countries and regions will come to Beijing to participate in 42 sports events.
