WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The United States said Wednesday Israel and Palestine are working on the joint document for the upcoming Middle East peace conference to be held in Annapolis, Maryland.

    "They are continuing to work on it. They know that they are going to be working to prepare something for Annapolis. It's not done yet," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a briefing.

    The United States is offering its "counsel and advice where it might be needed," McCormack said.

    The Annapolis meeting will not only produce a document, but will also try to push the Middle East peace conference in the run-up to the conference, McCormack added.

    The Middle East peace conference is tentatively to take place in Annapolis, Maryland from Nov. 25-27, according to U.S. media. However, the White House has declined to confirm the date for the conference.

    However, the peace conference looks to be thin on content, mostly serving as a stage to begin formal negotiations on a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, the New York Times said in a report on Monday.

    The Middle East peace process has been stalled due to the violence between the two sides as well as the internal conflicts of Palestinian factions.
