BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- A man in Southern India has married a female dog in an attempt to break what he believes is a curse, media reports said Wednesday.

The strange wedding took place at a temple in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

The 33-year-old bridegroom said he had been suffering since he stoned two coupling dogs to death 15 years ago and hung up their bodies in a tree.

"After that my legs and hands got paralyzed and I lost hearing in one ear," the reports quoted him as saying. "Only recently, after treatment I have managed to become mobile and that too with a crutch."

He was advised by an astrologer that he could be cured by marrying a female dog.

His relatives then chose a stray female dog named Selvi, washed it and dressed it in a wedding sari.

During a feast attended by some 200 guests after the traditional Hindu wedding ceremony, Selvi grew restless and ran away.

She was subsequently recaptured and returned to her husband who gave her milk and a bun to eat.
