KATHMANDU, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has provided emergency supplies and assistance for some 400 Bhutanese refugees in a camp in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal, after a fire swept through parts of the camp last Friday.

According to Tuesday's The Kathmandu Post, initial indications of investigation are that it was an accident, not the result of arson or foul play.

A statement issued by the UNHCR in Kathmandu on Monday said an investigation is underway to find the cause of the fire.

The fire, which broke out in Beldangi-1 camp, some 320 km east of Kathmandu, on Friday evening, destroyed some 68 huts. About 10 refugees sustained minor injuries while dismantling the huts to stop the fire from spreading further, said the UNHCR.

"It is most unfortunate that such a large number of houses were gutted by the fire and families affected during the Tihar festival," said Abraham Abraham, UNHCR Representative in Nepal. "I would like to express my sorrow for those injured and wish them speedy recovery."

The UNHCR, in coordination with the UN World Food Program and its non-governmental organizations partners, has already taken measures to rehabilitate affected families who have been temporarily sheltering in the school complex inside the camp.

Some 106,000 Bhutanese refugees have been living in seven camps in eastern Nepal for the last 17 years.
