GAZA, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement in the Hamas-ruled Gaza on Sunday night accused
rival Hamas movement's police forces of confiscating materials that Fatah plans
to use in a rally in Gaza on Monday.
A Fatah spokesman in Gaza said in a statement that
Hamas police stormed the movement's headquarters in Gaza City and confiscated
the bonnet, Fatah Kofeyyas (scarf) and posters for late leader Yasser Arafat
that would be used in a rally.
Earlier, Fatah called on Gaza residents to join a
rally that would be held on Monday in Gaza City to mark the 3rd anniversary of
late Arafat's leaving away.
According to the Fatah spokesman, some 30,000
bonnets, 30,000 Kofeyyas and 40,000 posters of Arafat were confiscated from the
movement's headquarters in Gaza City by Hamas police forces.
"The aim of confiscating the materials prepared for
the rally is to prevent the people from rallying and commemorate Arafat's
anniversary," said the spokesman who spoke in condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, Hamas police confirmed that Fatah office
was stormed and the rally materials "were brought through a border crossing
while Israel halts food and fuel entrance into the Gaza Strip."
Hamas forces defeated President Abbas' security
forces and his Fatah militias and took control of the Gaza Strip in mid June
following one bloody week of fierce infighting that left dozen skilled and
wounded.
Earlier on Sunday, Fatah supporters and
schoolchildren rallied in several Gaza Strip areas to mark Arafat's death
anniversary.
Witnesses said Hamas police forces chased Fatah rally
activists and had beaten up several schoolchildren.
