Chinese shuttler marches into finals of Vietnam Open women's singles

    HANOI, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Unseeded Zhu Jingjing of China on Saturday stunned her third-seed compatriot Wang Lin to book a final meeting with Hirayama Yu of Japan at Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open Badminton Championship 2007.

    Zhu defeated Wang 24-22, 21-12, while fourth-seed Hirayama beat seventh-seed Wang Yihan of China 23-21, 21-17.

    For the men's singles, second-seed Hashim Roslin of Malaysia had a lopsided semifinal victory of 21-11, 21-14 over his left-handed compatriot Chong Wei Feng.

    In the other semifinal game, eighth-seed Tedjono Andre Kurniawan of Indonesia, who had downed top seed Chen Yu of China 17-21, 21-11, 21-12 in a quarterfinal match, beat Malaysian shuttler Kuan Beng Hong 21-19, 21-12.

    Two pairs from South Korea, Cho Gun Woo/Kang Myeong Won and Ko Sung Hyun/Kwon Yi Goo will meet each other in the final slated for Sunday afternoon after defeating two duos from Chinese Taipei with the identical final score of 2-0 in the men's doubles.

    In the women's doubles, Koon Wai Chee Louisa/Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong, China, had a 21-14, 21-15 triumph over Chinese Taipei pair to set up a final meeting with Yulianti/Poluakan Nathalia Christine of Indonesia who beat Vietnamese duo, Le Thi Thanh Thuy and Tran Thi Thanh Thao, 21-11, 21-8.

    Hui Wai Ho/Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong, China, downed Indonesia rivals 21-11, 21-18 to secure a mixed doubles final clash with two unseeded Indonesian players, Akhmad Tantowi/Yulianti, who had to spend up to 50 minutes on winning over third-seed Flavell Renee/Cooper Craig from New Zealand 21-17, 21-19, 22-20.

    The badminton tournament, slated for Nov. 6-11 in Vietnam's Hanoi, attracts 198 athletes from 18 countries and regions with total cash prizes of 50,000 U.S. dollars.
