RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Mexico defeated Spain 5-4 and obtained its pass to the semifinals of the 3rd Beach Soccer World Cup being played in Brazil's famous Cop cabana beach resort at Rio de Janeiro on Thursday.
Mexico will play on Saturday against the winner of the Nigeria-Uruguay game.
After a scoreless first period, Javier Alvarez opened the scoring for Spain three minutes into the 2nd period and Miguel Beiro put in Spain's second goal with a penalty seconds afterward.
Ricardo Villalobos also netted a penalty for Mexico before Cristian Torres scored Spain's third goal. Oscar Gonzalez scored Mexico's 2nd goal before the end of the 2nd period.
The game was very exciting due to the tight score, but two Spanish players were expelled -Torres and Juamma- leaving Spain handicapped in the games 3rd period, in which Mexico tied with a goal by Morgan Plata.
Adam gave Spain the advantage but Salazar tied 30 seconds afterward and Villalobos scored the winning goal for Mexico three minutes prior to the end.
