NEW YORK, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. presidential hopeful Rudolph Giuliani received the endorsement of Pat Robertson, a prominent Christian leader and social conservative, on Wednesday.
Giuliani has historically supported gay rights, however, Robertson said he has faith that the former prosecutor would appoint judges that appeal to conservatives.
"He understands the need for a conservative judiciary and with the help of the distinguished Ted Olsen, who is here today, and other members of his team, has assured the American people that his choices for judicial appointments will be men and women who share the judicial philosophy of John Roberts and Anthony Scalia," said Robertson.
"It is my pleasure to announce my support for America's Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, a proven leader who is not afraid of what lies ahead and who will cast a hopeful vision for all Americans," Robertson said in a statement issued by the Giuliani campaign.
Giuliani is leading his Republican contenders but falls behind Democrat hopeful Hillary Clinton in the presidential race.
